School Profile
Sichuan University is one of the national key universities directly under the Ministry of Education, a high-level research-oriented comprehensive university in western China, and a national “Double First-Class” university (Class A). West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University (hereinafter “WCSM” or “the School”) is a prestigious medical school and a national demonstration base for higher medical education in China. WCSM, formerly known as the School of Medicine of West China Union University founded in 1914 as a private medical school, is one of the first schools in western China to grant doctoral degrees. Currently, there are 458 PhD supervisors, 597 Master supervisors, one academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 135 national-level talents, 75 experts from national societies or associations, and 1,404 people with senior titles. The School has set up four primary disciplines authorized to offer doctoral degree programs, namely Clinical Medicine, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Nursing and Medical Technology. It has eight post-doctoral research stations in Clinical Medicine, and offers 67 doctoral degree programs, 68 master's degree programs and 8 interdisciplinary programs.
WCSM continues to strengthen the classified training and personalized training of postgraduate students, forming a high-level and multi-type postgraduate training mode. For a century of teaching, generations of WCSMers have been adhering to the educational objectives of “being elite, refined and high-quality” and the “rigorous and diligent” teaching and learning styles, and thus laying a more solid foundation of medical heritage for WCSM. WCSMers’ dedicated the School to the center of medical education in western China and also has taken it to the forefront of medical education reform and international integration. WCSM has lived up to its name as “the cradle of medical education in western China”.

Application Procedures
I. Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens aged between 18 and 40, in good health and holding a valid regular passport.
2. For applicants who were Chinese citizens and later become foreign nationals, the provisions of "Notice of the Ministry of Education on the Regulation of Acceptance of International Students in China’s Higher Education Institutions" (WJH [2020] No.12) apply.
3. Applicants applying for the master's degree program must have a bachelor's degree or above. Applicants applying for the doctoral degree program must have a master's degree or above.
4. Applicants must pass HSK 4 (with a score of 180 or above) or provide a proof of equivalent Chinese language proficiency (subject to our school’s approval).
5. Applicants must be physically healthy, do well academically, and have strong scientific research ability or clinical ability.
6. Outstanding international students (with a bachelor’s or master’s degree) who have obtained their bachelor's degrees in mainland China also meet the eligibility.
II. Admissions Process
■ Application Deadline
Applicants taking a long-term or short-term program at Sichuan University should apply to the School four (4) months before the first day of school.
■ How to Apply
To apply for a Chinese Government Scholarship program, you should visit the website of China Scholarship Council at www.csc.edu.cn and apply as required within the application deadline. After that, you should visit the admissions website of Sichuan University at http://www.sculx.cn to apply again; otherwise you will not be accepted.
To apply for a program other than the Chinese Government Scholarship program, you should apply online to the Sichuan University’s admissions website at http://www.sculx.cn during the specified application period.
■ Notes
Please make sure you check your email inbox (including spam) on a regular basis in case you miss a notification requesting additional or corrected information/materials/documents for your application. Incomplete and inaccurate materials and documents provided may result in rejection of your application.
■ Review
For applicants for the Chinese Government Scholarship program, the applicants and their application materials will be reviewed by the China Scholarship Council and Sichuan University.
For self-sponsored applicants, the applicants and their application materials will be reviewed by Sichuan University.
■ Acceptance
Applicants will receive a “Letter of Admission to Sichuan University for International Students” and a JW201 Form (for students on Chinese Government Scholarship) or JW202 Form (for self-sponsored students or those on a scholarship other than Chinese Government Scholarship). Applicants should apply for a study visa (X1 or X2) at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate with the above two documents.
■ Enrollment
The accepted students need to enroll at the school within the specified time with the “Letter of Admission to Sichuan University for International Students” (paper version), JW201 Form (for students on Chinese Government Scholarship) or JW202 Form (for self-sponsored students or those on a scholarship other than Chinese Government Scholarship) and other related documents.
■ Application Requirements
Ø Materials to be submitted to apply for the master’s degree program
- Photocopy of passport;
- Bachelor's degree certificate or pre-graduation certificate;
- Transcript showing all undergraduate courses taken;
- Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English written by associate professors or above;
- Study and research plans in Chinese or English (students applying for the English-taught program must submit their study plan in English; the study plan must include the following: personal information, reasons for application, the knowledge of the discipline or major applied for, and future study plan);
- Table(s) of contents and abstract(s) of academic articles written or published (if any);
- Certificate of language proficiency;
- Medical examination form for foreigners (its date of issue should be within 6 months from the date of submission of application materials);
- Proof of financial ability (bank deposits, etc.), which is not required for students on Chinese government scholarship.
- Certificate of employment (if any); and
- Certificates of awards or honors, or other supporting documents.
Remarks:
1. Applicants must make sure that all application materials submitted are true and accurate. All application materials must be uploaded in the form of scanned copies, and materials other than in Chinese or English must be accompanied by official translations in Chinese or English.
2. Incomplete application materials will not be accepted; Applicants will be required to submit additional materials if necessary.

About Scholarships
Chinese Government Scholarship is a full scholarship (including tuition, accommodation, living expenses and comprehensive health insurance) offered by the China Scholarship Council to Sichuan University to directly select and enroll outstanding foreign young students to study in China. This program is merely designed for enrolling master's degree students and doctoral degree students. Applicants should apply directly to the Overseas Students Office, Sichuan University, and complete and submit the electronic application information through the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System of the China Scholarship Council. The final list of scholarship winners will be given after their applications are reviewed by the Overseas Students Office, Sichuan University and approved by the China Scholarship Council.
Sichuan University “the Belt and Road” Scholarship is available to students from countries along “the Belt and Road”, as well as students from countries along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Application for such a scholarship is normally made between April 1 and May 30 through the Sichuan University’s Admissions Website for International Students. The final list of scholarship winners will be given by the University.
